troubleshooting IR connections

IR HARDWARE INSTALLATION

You must use a computer with an IrDA interface.  If your computer does not have IrDA there are several USB and Serial adapters on the market. We keep a limited number of USB adapters in stock.

We have tested the upgrade process on several brands of computer with built-in IrDA and also ActiSys external devices, however, we know that other software that uses the IrDA interface can interfere with the Neptune Updater.

IR PORT CONFIGURATION

Neptune communicates using a wireless serial link, therefore the IR Device must be seen as a comm port.

We recommend the use of the IRCOMM2K driver to create a Virtual IR Comm Port. The IRCOMM2k Driver is included on the Mini CD included with your Neptune and it can also be downloaded.

NOTE: Please use IRComm2k version 1.2.1. Neptune does not work with version IRComm2k version 2. We recommend you use IrComm2k even if your computer bios allows the IrDA port to be configured as a comm port. Install IRComm2k and be sure to note the comm port that it is installed on.

IR PORT TROUBLESHOOTING

If you are unable to connect to your Neptune, please try the followings tips:

1) Have you installed IRComm2K?

2) Have you disabled Image Transfer?

Start > Control Panel > Wireless Link > Image Transfer Tab > Uncheck "Use wireless link to transfer images ..."

3) Are you using Microsoft ActiveSync? This program will not allow other applications to use the IR port. If you do not use ActiveSync over an IR link then it can be disabled.

In Active Sync go to File > Connection Settings > Uncheck "Allow serial cable or IR connection..."

4) Are you using Palm HotSync? This program will not allow other applications to use the IR port. If you do not use HotSync over an IR link then it can be disabled.

Right click on the HotSync Taskbar icon and deselect "InfraRed"
